gambiaThe Steering Committee having formally adapted it's structures on Saturday November 16 2013, wishes to notify the general public that it is now officially called The Committee For The Restoration of Democracy in the Gambia (CORDEG).Committee members thank all Gambians and pledge to do their utmost to advance the agenda outlined in the foundational principles upon which the organization was built. The task before us would require the prayers and participation of all who aspire to a better future for our country and that is why we start this difficult journey confident that all citizens of goodwill will stand together. We face a grave national crisis and we must rise to the occasion by bringing all hands on deck to save ourselves and our country.

Consequently, we are pleased to announce that as our first order of business we will be partnering with the UDP, NRP, GMC and PPP for a series of unity rallies they will be jointly staging in November and December as part of a massive mobilization effort to address urgent concerns of Gambians. It would be in line with our stated objective of fostering unity among the political forces in the country as the battle for freedom and democracy enters into its decisive phase. These joint unity rallies would be different in many respects and are designed to be part of a broader engagement strategy to restore democracy and the rule of law. We ask Gambians at home to turn out in historic numbers and attend each of these Unity Rallies and firmly assert themselves as free people in their own country. To our brothers and sisters here in the diaspora we would like each and every one of you to make a modest contribution to a permanent revolving fund to finance these rallies so that the people on the ground have the resources to move people, get equipment, take care of logistics, feed volunteers, fund communication and other functional matters. Technology has made it possible for all of us to act swiftly in gathering money and to be able to do so confidentially for those who prefer that and because we have a short window before the first rally, we are through this press release providing two platforms through which people can send contributions for onward transmission to the joint event planning committee that is already in place.
