While Gambians are leaving their impoverished country ingambia large numbers—risking their lives by traveling through the “back way” to Libya and later cross by boat to Italy, it is certain that there is an ultimate price to pay during such back way sojourns, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. This young Gambian youth man was found drop dead in the streets of Tripoli, Libya after his killers poured gasoline on his body and burn him to death. The deceased’s name is Yankuba Jaiteh. Mr. Jaiteh was killed by Libyan fascist mob group on April 2 and his body was laid to rest on the 4 of April, according to sources reaching the Freedom Newspaper.

On his Facebook page profile, young Yankuba Jaiteh said he attended the Kotu senior secondary school. He also said he is a businessman, who studied at Jollof institution.

gambiaLike all Gambian economic refugees, who have been forced into exile due to the regime’s inability to create employment opportunities for the nation’s young school graduates, Yankuba Jaiteh also left The Gambia with the hope of bettering his life abroad.  However, Yankuba Jaiteh has been failed by his country; and his government. Economic hardship coupled with a failed leadership in Banjul, Jaiteh decided to risk his life by venturing into such back way dangerous sojourns. He met his unfortunate death in Libya, where he was murdered in cold blood.

Gambians who found their way in Libya through the back way have complained about being victims of anti-blacks hate crime perpetrated by Libyan Arabs. A good number of Gambian travelers have been killed in Libya under similar circumstances. It is estimated that over five thousand Gambian economic migrants are currently stranded in Libya.

In a Facebook posting, Yankuba Jaiteh’s brother said:”kallu inna lillaah wagambia inna liayh raaji oon....hello to all the friends and family of Yankuba Jaiteh...i regret to let you know that he has passed away in the Libyan capital Tripoli on the 2 April and he was then put in grave on the 4_April.....he needs your prayers at the moment....may Allah the almighty god bless him janatul fredasu....by his brother Bakary T Barrow.”

The Gambia government under the leadership of dictator Yahya Jammeh has not invested in the area of youth development and empowerment. Gambian youths have been neglected to a point that many have totally given up in life. Youths occasionally resort to using drugs, drinking alcohol and petty crime.

While Gambian youths are fleeing and dying in foreign lands, on the other hand, dictator Jammeh is engaged in misplaced priority projects. Come next month, Jammeh is hosting Jamaican singers. The country is preparing for a Home Coming Festival. It is estimated that over one million dollars has been earmarked for the festival. Yet this is a country, in which the economy and infrastructure have collapsed. Public transportation is on its lowest ebb.  All the ferries in Banjul have been grounded due to mechanical problems. Gambia’s road network is also in deplorable condition.

While national institutions are falling apart due to cash shortages related problems to keep the wheel of government moving, it is imperative to note that there is an acute drug shortages in government health facilities across the nation. Jammeh’s regime is unable to import drugs to cure patients. Many patients are dying due to lack of drugs and negligence.

Gambia’s energy sector too is the worst in the African region. That’s one of the reasons why the bankrupt regime recently decided to liberalize the importation of gasoline. Investors have lost faith in Gambia’s dead economy and regime. This to some extent; is causing problems in various sectors of the sick economy.

Cost of living is also on the increase. The average Gambian cannot afford a bag of rice, the nation’s main staple food. Salaries are occasionally delayed due to cash shortage related problems.

Jammeh and his Lebanese partners in financial crimes are in control of the economy. There is no fair competition in the market. Jammeh has monopolizes the market.
