Gambia To Change OfficialLanguage To Arabic!!!

When I told Gambians some years ago that Jallow Kanilai is a radicalized Islamic extremist, some thought that I was being critical of the Kanilai monster. There is more into his anti western bashing. Guess what? JK wants to change Gambia's official language into Arabic. Lol!!! Though it is hard to believe, but it is a subject of discussion in army barracks and public places. This could be a tactical move on the side of JK to appease his Arab new allies. He is desperately in need of cash and he will do whatever it takes to appease the Arabs.

IT IS HIGH TIME THE IMF, THE WORLD BANK AND THE EU TO COMMISSION A TAX ENQUIRY INTO JAMMEH’S NUMEROUS BUSINESS ACTVITIES.

Yaya Jammeh became a businessman around 1997 or thereabout. A prominent Gambian businessman and his Lebanese partners open a new company under the watchful eye of Yaya Jammeh. The said company started importing fuel products into the country around 1998. This company operates under the same name ever since under an exclusivity regime, which expired this year and is recently extended to 2016. No one knows if this company pays import duties and sales taxes and income tax for its operations? No government official dares ask questions to this company. The same company shareholders with government minority shareholding built the Mandinary Fuel depot and a tanker landing strip where tankers unload their cargo without the presence of Gambian authorities. At times even local company staff are ask to go home whiles the ships unload. There are no statistics available for the Mandinary fuel depot operations.

Mass arrest at Gambia National Lottery

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

Officials of The Gambia National Lottery (GNL) were on Tuesday rounded up by personnel of The Gambia Police Force (GPF), reliable sources informed the Daily Observer yesterday afternoon.

Sources said the GNL officials were arrested at their offices in Kanifing Industrial Area during normal official working hours.

At the time of putting this piece together, no official reason(s) was advanced for the crackdown, but sources hinted that it was in connection to the thought-provoking revelation at the National Assembly that the Company has since its inception in 1996 not been audited. Hence the arrests and  collection of the travel documents of those arrested, was meant to prevent them from absconding until the report is ready.

Contacted on this development, the police spokesperson, ASP David Kujabi, confirmed that the GNL officials were invited to the Fraud Squad unit for questioning, but were later granted bail.

'VAT MACHINES ARE KILLING BUSINESSES IN GAMBIA,' BUSINESSMEN COMPLAIN

Business Owners Say The Gambia Is Not Yet Ready For VAT; Lamenting About The Worthiness Of The Machines

Local businesses in the Gambia are not the least happy with the recently introduced Value Added Tax (VAT) machines, which were imported into the country by businessman Muhammed Jah's Quantum net company.  Their displeasure is centered around the machines' "worthiness, lack of reliability and proper maintenance" in the event of system glitch issues. The VAT machines were said to have been imported from Germany. The Ministry of Finance is reported to have spent D36 Million dalasi in purchasing the VAT machines. But the machines are not popular in the market. Business owners said the machine are not that effective and once it is reported faulty, it is hard to get it fixed. This is the machine that the regime uses to calculate VAT  sales taxes leveled against consumers and business owners at cash registers.
